Tension

by Lucy @, Wales, UK, Wednesday, April 01, 2009, 08:53

Lately i've been making some RAW jewelry but i've been having a lot of trouble keeping an even (and correct!) tension.

I always seem to have a few bits where i've beaded too tight and the beadwork buckles and other parts where its slightly too loose and the beads move about a bit and the thread gets exposed!
Its never particularly bad (in fact usually when i try to show my husband he cant even see what i mean!) but it still drives me mad!

Does anybody have any tips?

Tension

I have the same problem with peyote stitch tension! In some sections there's so much space between the beads and in other sections, it's super tight and it ends up being wide in places and narrow in other places. I guess it just takes practice. Anyone else with any real tips (not just encouragement lol) would help us too hehe.

Tension

Hi
I was given this wonderful tip. after threading the 1st 2 rows slip a thin piece of wire through the 1st row (every other bead) secure the wire so the bead stay put, and peyote as usual. If you use cylinder beads it is easier to keep an even tension. Personally I love Aiko beads. Again you can always adjust the tension by tightening ir loosening the thread at the ends of the row. On brick stitch I always use the other brick stitch method where you go through the bead rather than the thread. If I can be of anymore help let me know.

Tension

Hi
2 needle raw is my favourite stitch, and it is very forgiving. You can adjust the tension before finishing a row. Anchor the piece to a cork/bead mat and starting at the beginning ease the beads on each thread, tightening or loosening the thread as yu go. Also relax, the more you relax the more even your tension will become. Using even beads helps as well. I can't get on with single needle raw. I hope this helps. If I havn't made myself clear let me know and I'll see if I can scan you a picture of what I mean.
