Selling your jewelry

by Jax ⌂ @, California, Sunday, February 22, 2009, 12:24

Ok I have a question for all of you. I am getting ready to start selling my jewelry online. I won't be selling much, just enough to keep buying beads.
I did set up two free sites, one at freewebs and one at synthasite but I am thinking about setting up shop on ETSY instead.
Before I make my final decision on what site to use, I want to know what is your guys experience with the sites you have. Are they free or do you pay for them? How is the traffic? Are any of you selling anything?

Well, you can always set up a page on here Jax! Laura was planning to do that as well, once she got the hang of updating. We don't have add to cart facilities yet, but hopefully one day. In any case, it would be good exposure for you. Have you tried selling on consignment at craft stores or department stores (I'd stear clear of actual bead stores because their shoppers are likely beaders themselves, so they'd be more interested in making their own stuff than buying it ready-made)

Selling your jewelry

Hi Jax,

I currently sell jewelry on Ebay, Bonanzle and Etsy. I had tried selling on my own site but I just wasn't getting any traffic.

Here is my take on the above sites I currently sell on.

Ebay - Great site, lots of traffic, Very high fees. You will get sales as long as your prices are cheap to reasonable. Ebay ID - Danelichic
Bonanzle - New site, Easy to use, Pretty good traffic. Free to list. I've been there 1 month and have had 3 sales. Booth - Danelichicjewelry
Etsy - Lovely Site, Low Fees, the jewelry category has tons of competition. I've been there 3 months with no sales. - Danelichicjewelry

I hope that helps, let me know if I can be of any help.
Eliana

P.S. I love this site. :-)

Wow that is very good advice Eliana, thanks for sharing with us! Looks like Bonanzle is worth a look! How much higher are the ebay fees compared to the etsy fees? How have you been selling on ebay?
What kind of jewelry are you selling? Like stringing or weaved beading?

Glad you like the site! :-P

Duh, I didn't realize you left your usernames on those sites. You make very good use of lampwork glass beads! Your glass earrings are really dainty! Have you tried selling any jewelry (or any pattern) you made off this site?

Hi, Allegra,

Thanks for the kind words. I have been trying to sell a variation of your Hello Kitty pattern in a Necklace. I haven't sold one yet but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I also started a Red Swarovski crystal puff heart a couple of years ago but I could never figure out how to finish it off. The other day I found it in my bag of goodies and I just have to tell you that I used your pattern and I was so existed that I could complete it. I finished it off by putting it on a white pearl necklace. It will be up for sale in a few days.

I am totally amazed and impressed by the lovely work that everyone does here.

If you ever get a chance I would love to see a pattern for a Tiny Crystal Handbag. : )

Thanks again for all you do.

Hi Eliana,

So sorry i got to see your post only now.. as i didn't have the luxury of surfing online everyday, but could only do it once or twice a week.. ;P

I would be most happy to share the pattern of the mini evening bag with you.. :)

As this was my first beaded piece, the pattern i have is all messy with alot of drawings and colouring..

I will try to clear it up and post it again in the forum (may need the ladies to draw up a proper pattern).. btw i visited your site at Bonanzle and i must say you have quite a huge selection of earrings there.. love your designs, great job, keep it up! :D

Cheers,
Lois

Actually, she can send you an email from here, just by clicking on the envelope icon next to your name on your posts. She won't know what your email address is (for privacy) until you reply to her (by email) and then you can carry on your conversation by email.

Hi Jax, I have had lots of luck on Craigslist. Sometimes you get some people like from Nigeria who are trying to get your jewelry and not pay but if you are careful and only deal with within the US and not send anything until you are paid, you are good. I have gotten lots of exposure and will be a vendor at a small fashion show next month. Hope this helps.

I love Craigslis but I never thought of using it for selling my stuff. Thanks for the idea.
