beading for fun or for sale
Hello Everyone,
As I was reading through the forum I started wondering if most of you are beading for fun or to sell. If you are selling a figurine, how do you figure out how to price it. For example, the new bear pattern, how much would a finished bear cost and how much would you sell it for. Many times it takes so many hours to complete a piece that if you included your time the price would be sky high. Any tips on pricing will be greatly appreciated.
I love all the new improvements to this forum. Great job, Allegra and your team!!!

I bead because...well I have to! It is a sort of compulsion. I end up selling my items simply because I don't have enough room to display my things and I surely don't want to throw them out. I am struggling to figure out the pricing for my ornaments and the 3D patterns. I love working on them, but don't know what to charge for them. I would love to get some feedback on how much to charge per hour of working time. I know that I am a fast, tight beader, but still I want to know what other people charge hourly.

LOL, I bead because I have to too! It's a total addiction. I give most of my stuff away to friends and family for birthdays and Christmas. The few things I sell, I use the money to buy more beads. I have a hard time figuring out pricing too. You can always check ETSY for items similar to yours and see what other people are pricing their jewelry at.

That's true, or even check out Jen and Sue Jensen's items in this site's beading market. Usual range for their prices is 20 to 30 dollars per 3D piece. Some people charge more if they use bigger beads because the 3D work looks bigger, but I don't understand it because it's easier to bead with bigger beads, but I guess they are more expensive than smaller beads. So I guess the major cost driver for most people is the beads rather than the labour. So use expensive beads and mark the price way up, and your labour would be the same LOL. People are usually willing to pay for expensive beads if they have value because they think of it as an investment, like in gold or diamonds, lol.
