Hi Lisa,

The Kawasaki Rose is a complex origami (folded paper) structure resembling a rose. You can see a picture of it (one I made) in the Crafts link of this site. It's on my to do list to make a pattern for it, but for now, thanks a lot for posting an alternate!

I just reviewed the pattern posted on that site. It's not the same rose. My method is quite different. Personally, I think my method is much easier than the one they show there. But that's good for me to see how to show an origami pattern online lol. It was quite clear to follow it that way. But try that one anyway because the rose looks quite nice. My rose is a bit different because from top view, mine has twirls in the middle section (center of the rose) and theirs is more internal and flat.

Looks very complex! Just looking through it, I struggled to follow the instructions. I've never done origami before so maybe I should start with something simpler. ;-)

Thanks for posting it though!

Nonsense, Laura, if you can do beaded teddy bears and apples, you can do origami roses. This was the first ever origami pattern I learned, and I learned it by taking one apart that my friend gave me, and reproducing it. I never had a step by step pattern to follow. So I am 100% sure you would ace it. I know how sharp your brain is.

Lol, thanks ;-) I think I would probably do better if I had one to take apart and study, like you did, because its the diagrams on that site that confused me. I just couldn't see how you got to one of the steps from the previous one. :-P Maybe the animation would help... I'll have to have another look at it at some point.

Hi Allegra,

I clicked on the origami rose tutorial and all I saw was a fast motion video showing someone making the rose rather than a step by step tutorial. I have been wanting to make the Kawasaki rose for the past couple years and every time I try I get stuck at a certain point. I have patterns but I still am not able to complete it. I can't wait to see your pattern. Maybe I'll have better luck. Thanks for the bear pattern. Another project on my very long to-do list.

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Nancy
