Beaders introduce yourselves!
I live on the Southern Pacific Coast of the U.S.A. I have been doing beading for a bit over a year now. I really enjoy it and have posted many of the things I have made on my Web Shots site where I post photographs of my family, my home and many of the places we have vacationed. I am just now getting into doing wire work, and struggling, but hopefully some day soon I will begin to get it right. Haven't yet found the place to upload photos, but when I do, I will put one up of some of my work. I just love this very helpful site, and the many people who are here helping others.
Beaders introduce yourselves!

That's funny you blame your husband, I do too. He is the one that first meet our neighbor that got me hooked and he insisted I go check out what she was doing. I remind him that every time I head of to the LBS.

Beaders introduce yourselves!
hi, I'm sylvia and I live in Port Macquarie which is a beautiful town on the North Coast of NSW Australia. I have been beading for 5 years and find it ideal when it is too hot to spin or knit. in fact, it is 30degrees celsius here today. Luckily we are near Lighthouse beach and get a beautiful breeze off the ocean
Beaders introduce yourselves!
I am jealous! I hate the cold. Not that I can complain much, it was 70 here last week (Fahrenheit) but its back to being cold again. It sounds wonderful there. I love heading to the beach to hunt for things to use in my jewelry but never seem to get there often enough. My son found me a complete half of an abalone shell when we went last Monday. I am thrilled, it is beautiful!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
We're even worse than that in Victoria! It's been nearly 40 Celsius all week, and today and tomorrow are even over 40!! 40 Celsius is about 104 Fahrenheit. I can hardly bead, I can hardly think, I can hardly do anything! We've got fans everywhere, but I'm definitely going to save for an air conditioner, I'm getting too old for this!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
WOW...I can't begin to envision what that must be like. Here in Canada, it's minus 30 degrees celsius right now (which is around minus 22 fahrenheit). That's along the very southern border of Canada. Up in the territories, it's well below minus 40 celsius right now! We're all covering up with our scarves, hats, mittens, 3 layers of wool sweaters, and a fake fur coat on top. Oh and knee high boots to plow through the knee-high snow and the ice. I slipped on the ice and fell flat on my bum the other day. How would you like to trade situations? hehehe
We had a guy come in from Africa to see our pharmacy last week (he's trying to get licensed here, he's already a pharmacist in Africa). In Africa, it's summer right now. So he was basically travelling in a plane from summer to winter (I still marvel at how that can be possible). It was around +40 celsius where he came from as well, and he claims it never gets below 5 degrees in winter. So anyway, we told him to dress warmly because it would be cold here. Of course, he had no conception of what cold means to us. So he came in his light leather jacket, which was the warmest thing he owned. Boy did he get the shock of his life! He at least bought a hat and mittens and scarf from the local store while he was here! He was only here for a few days to see the place. Now he's warm again in Africa hehe.
Beaders introduce yourselves!
OMG BURRRRR! It's 45 F or 7 C here right now. It doesn't get much colder than that and it never snows here either (for those that don't know, I am in San Jose California, nice, sunny, warm California! ) Part of the appeal of why I moved here!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Wow! I was just reading about a heatwave in Adelaide, their temps are going over 45 Celsius. Amost the worst on record. Public transport is in chaos, because trainlines are being buckled by the heat!
And the heatwave in Victoria is a the worst for here since 1908. There are heaps of sirens going now, there are fires nearby, probably bushfires.
This gets scary.

Hi Allegra,
I love your forum and free patterns. I have tried many patterns and love the way they turn out. I have never posted pictures online before because I don't know how to do it. Could you give me a quick tutorial on how to post photos? I have a Kodak digital camera but I'm at a loss as to how to post the pics I take. I'd appreciate any help or suggestiions. Thanks.

Beaders introduce yourselves!
hello everyone
my name is gili, ilive in israel, i am beading for about two years,i love sharing ...
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Good morning,
Although it won't show at my project blog, my favorite beads to use are the seed beads. I started beading just a couple of years ago and taught myself using the wealth of info on the Internet. I've always liked crafts of some sort (usually sewing) and needed to come up with something I could do in the same room where my husband watches TV Beading seemed the ticket as it's so portable, very satisfying, could be cheap if I didn't go overboard (!!), and if you goof you usually only lose the time and not the materials. Works for me!
I live in Maryland and the closest bead store is about an hour away and they don't sell quality seed beads I have to buy most of my beads online.
If you want to set up a site for showing off your beads I suggest you look at https://www.blogger.com/start which is a free hosting service for blogs. There's a slight learning curve to get it the way you want it but it's not too hard. Here's a link to mine:

Happy beading!

Hi
I LOVE beading.. I live in Virginia Beach VA. where the sun is shining and the temps are 50+ today.
I am a mother of 2 ,grandmother of 6 and Great Grandmother of 1 + . I have been married to the same great guy for almost 43 years. I am owned by 4 (Westie's) and I love beading.. hmm think I said that already.. Allegra has been kind enough to put one of my designs at the bottom here under SuJen's Peyote bracelet.. I thank you again Allegra. Soon my designs will be in Kit form and available through www.readytobead.com
. I am excited about this new venture in my life.. Hope to get to know you all and share in our love for beads.
Sue
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Hi Sue, welcome to the site. Ready to bead is a neat site. I love the idea of everything you need in one kit. I always have trouble finding pieces, there is always 1 thing I can never find.
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Haha that reminds me of some of the free patterns on beading daily, which are just super basic stringing patterns that only differ by the types of beads used. I always have a chuckle because it all depends on you having those beads, and there's usually a special pendant that goes in the center that you can't just find in your corner store, so how do they expect you to get it lol. Not to say all their patterns are like that. I've found some really nice patterns on there, but they've done that before more than a few times hehe.
Not to say anything bad about stringing. Stringing can be a beautiful art form if you match up the right beads with each other. But I always thought it was silly to make a pattern out of stringing a particular set of beads together when you are not providing the beads to the person and not telling them where to get the beads.
Nice to see you again Sue!! That's so exciting news!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
You are right, Allegra about Beading Daily and the bead stringing part. Also Bead and Button has the same thing going. However, Beading Daily also has other areas, for instance they have wonderful programs and projects for wire work and other forms of beading art.
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Hi,
I am very happy to be invited by Allegra to introduce myself here. My name is Shirley. I am from Malaysia. I start beading since November 2008. Therefore I am very new in beading. I wish to learn more about 3d beading. My only 3d beading (the complex one) I ever made is the Cross and the mini Handbag. I wish to learn how to made the 3d animals. There are lot more to learn from here. Allegra have a very nice website with great guide. This is the website which I see with the most 3d beading patterns.
I have done quite a few projects such as bracelet, necklace, pendant, and accessories. All my works are now all uploaded at my blog which is http://silyjewelshop.blogspot.com/
I really enjoy beading. I like to see them sparking, I like to see them in the 3d. I wish one day I can create the pattern and share with you all. I am still learning...
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Hi Shirley, nice to meet you! I hope you learn lots of patterns from the site. The charms on your site are very cute and indeed sparkly! You use crystals?
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Hi Allegra,
Thanks for visiting my site. Ya, I am using swarovski crystals because I love Bling blinggg.. :P
Regards,
Shirley.
Beaders introduce yourselves!
My name is Dawn. I live in Richmond, VA. I have been beading for about 2 years. I am a cancer survivor and beading helped me get through that. I have a 5 year old and am a stay-at-home mom. I mostly do beaded ornaments which can be seen at my site... www.sunrisebeading.com . The site is not completely up, but the ornaments are. I love working on the 3D RAW creations and have done several from here and elsewhere.
Oh,, and I a 2 time silver medal winner in the Ornaments category for Fire MOuntain Gems and Beads (2007 and 2008).
Thanks Allegra, for this wonderful site!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
I've been looking at all the links you've all posted for us, and I must say I'm impressed! I hope one day you share some patterns with the rest of us. And It's so nice to get to know some of you. I never realized how many 'lurkers' we had on the site, lol.
Can't wait to learn about the rest of you! Come on, don't be shy!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
It's so fun reading about all of you and checking out your links! This is a great place to hang out and it's also cool to see where everyone is from!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
I visited your site tonight. Lovely work I see you like a challenge. Congratulations on your wins at Fire Mountain Gems.
Beaders introduce yourselves!
how to win these medals?
Beaders introduce yourselves!
It was not I who won the contest at Fire Mountain Gems, it was Dawn who said she had won two awards there.
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Hi Qubail alfajr, Fire mountain gems hosts a huge contest every year for original bead work. They have pretty good prizes too! Fire mountain gems contest info You can find the info here
Beaders introduce yourselves!
How cool to have won twice through Fire Mountain! I have an idea that I have been working on but don't think I will get it done in time for this year. Maybe next year! Will you be entering again?
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Yes!! I already have my contest piece done. I just have to photograph it and put it on a CD ready to send. Doing something a little different this year....I am using a 4in diameter ball...I'll let it be a secret until I make finalist (if I do) then I will go ahead and post it!
Thanks so much for the comments everybody. I work hard and like to be appreciated once in awhile!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Oh my gosh, so timid. Your pieces are all gorgeous! Each and every one of them is outstanding. I wish I had such imagination!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Thanks Allegra! I just sortof stumbled on to beading ornaments, and still have trouble believing that something came so naturally to me! I love working the 3D patterns. I tend to make them with larger beads and string them on wire to make....ornaments!! I am working on the patterns in my Jap book. I have to take pictures of my Pikachu, Jigglypuff (another Pokemon character) and heart shaped cake with a flower on top. Tomorrow (ugh! I mean today!) I will start work on a bunny wearing a ball gown. It should be a real challenge...not the least since the patterns are all in Japanese and trying to figure out how many of which bead can be quite a task sometimes! Anyways, thanks for all the nice things said about my work. And Allegra, thanks again for this awesome site.It has meant more to me than you can know.
Beaders introduce yourselves!
I can't wait to see your jigglypuff! That was my favourite pokemon!

Hi everybody:
My name is Yamilet and I'm from Cuba, but I'm living in Tampa, Florida, USA. I'm Architect, but always like to do art crafts. I began beading a year ago with the Kumihimo with beads, and now learn whatever new technique pass through my eyes. I made the jewelry for myself or for gifts, but the last december my husband had a stroke and he will be recovering for about a year, so I'm the only income in my house now, because I have two wonderfull kids, I start thinking to sell some of my jewerly. I have to learn to take photo jewerly, that's why I don't have right now any picture to post. Next month I will go to the class for that. My English is not the best, but I like to thank you everybody for give me the opportunity to know you and hope we keep growing every day.
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Your English is better than you give yourself credit for! I have been looking at the kumihimo beading but haven't gotten a chance to try it. I can't wait to see pictures!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Oh wow, I never knew kumihimo beading existed! Who knew there were techniques other than peyote stitch and right angle weave?
Welcome Yamilet, and I hope you learn how to take pictures because we'd LOVE to see them!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Hello everyone,
I am located on the West coast. I got into beading first because I was drawn to how beautiful they were. I started with stringing then moved on to basic wire work, now looking into wire wrapping. I have taken a couple of classes in the 3D beading. I have a Grand-daughter that wants one of everyone she sees. That should keep me busy. Your designs are beautiful, thank you for sharing.
Beaders introduce yourselves!
I have three kids so I have to make 3 of everything so I know how that can be!

HI,
My name is Christy and I live in St. Louis, Missouri. I'll be 54 in May and have been beading since the 8th grade! lol Every summer my Mom would take me up to the Hobby Shop in Kirkwood and let me pick out a craft project to keep me busy....or out of the way. :) One year I picked out a 99 cent "Indian" beading loom. After that, I was hooked. I used graph paper and colored pencils to make designs and then bead them with seed beads. I still have some of my original pieces and the pocket folder with some of my first drawings.
I went to an American Sewing Guild convention and learned a lot about beadwork from a lady that works in an Italian wedding shop and grew up sitting next to her grandmother evey day after school and hand sewing beads on wedding dresses!
A couple of years ago I saved up money to drive to Chicago and take a two day class with Diane Fitzgerald. It was wonderful! I took her peyote polygons class and have been fascinated with 3D beading ever since. I have a few of the Japanese books, with miniature things like doll house furniture, etc.,,,,,but every once in a while I get stuck trying to follow the drawings. I'm hoping if I delve into this more, I'll be able to learn how to do it better.
Someone taught me to start with pony beads and try beading around a Coke can...then gradually use smaller and smaller. beads....it works....and you can actually "see" how the beads fit together. I love Delicas and have created some amulet purses, but I seem to make things just to give away!
I was in a bead swap last year through Artbeads and it was so much fun getting a surprise bead package in the mail each month.
My recent interests are Christmas ornaments by Paula Adams and I have been getting a lot of patterns off of bead-patterns.com.
Thank you Allegra for bringing us all together.......Happy Beading!
Christy
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Oh it's nice to meet you Christy! You have an interesting last name hehe. Is it fun beading on a loom? I've never tried it. Is it hard to do? 99 cents sounds like a pretty good deal, although the price might have gone up a bit since then. Have you ever done any peyote stitch? I've seen some models of 3D peyote stuff, but mainly here we do right angle weave because it lends itself very easily to 3D beading. I want to learn 3D peyote one day when I have more time though!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Hi Christy and welcome. Now I have to say I am totally jealous. I have admired Diana Fitzgerald's work since the very first time I saw it. Diana's site is here if you don't know who we are talking about.
I started on a cheap loom when I was in about the 8th grade too. My mom bought it for me because she was tired of me taping my warp threads to the table with my dad's scotch tape. I had no idea they were warp threads way back then!
I do hope you share some photos of your work with us here. We would love to see it.
Allegra, one day we will teach you how to work on a loom, after we finish all the patterns on this site that is! Oh, and figure out dimensional peyote! And rearrange! LOL our list keeps getting longer!
Beaders introduce yourselves!
LOL, can you make your own loom? How big is a loom? I keep picturing a giant thing like those old spinning wheels the pioneers used.
Beaders introduce yourselves!
That IS nice stuff on Diane's site! Is she a famous beader? The name rings a bell, maybe she was mentioned on beading daily. I especially like her netted balls with the large pearls inside (gold ball necklace on her calendar, listed under April).
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Yes, I think she was mentioned on Beading daily.
For your loom, check these out. You can make them yourself too. I have seen instructions somewhere.
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Wow. All this talk about loom work. That's what I need to learn. I think I've done nearly every type of off loom stitch, but I have no idea about anything about working with a loom. The looms at Fire mountain gems all look so different. Do they all work the same way?
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Allegra,
you can make your own loom, but it is much easier to buy one at your local craft store unless you want to do big pieces . There are some places you can get very nice handmade large scale looms, usually by buying online. I have a really beautiful loom that is 24x30 inches that I got a few years ago. I can't remember the name of the place I got it from. They made and sold the looms to help support the Wold Sanctuary they had there. All I can find is the paw print burned into the loom--no actual name . Anyways looming is great, but finishing the pieces (especially the large ones!) can be hard
Beaders introduce yourselves!
Someone after my own heart! I love making beaded ornaments too! Anyways, do you have any patterns for Paula Adams or are you just looking at it and coming up with a pattern yourself. He things are so beautifully intricate and dimensional!
Paula Adams Ornaments
Hi Dawn,
Nice to meet you. I did purchase one pattern from Paula Adams, it was the Star Within / Coin Edge. Kind of expensive, but I just had to have it! I think I can do the other Star pattern variations off the pattern I got. There is also a free pagoda pattern on her website. I printed eveything out, but haven't tried it yet. I've gone crazy recently on bead-patterns.com going through all the 3D stuff I could find. I just wish I had more time to bead. lol
Like a week in a log cabin somewhere with nothing but, food, a computer, and my beads! What a dream.
Paula Adams Ornaments
Well met! I agree about getting away, but in my case it is just getting away from my 5 year old son for awhile! I get a bunch of time to bead when I get him working on activities and he likes to bead too!. I printed out the Pagoda pattern. It seems very closely related to the beaded boxes I have worked on before. I thought about getting the star pattern too, but maybe I will just look at the pictures and play until I get it right, or at least close! The major problem I have is getting the cylinder beads. I have mostly got Czech beads, which look great in my other creations, but definitely not for this type of ornament! I think my husband would kill be if I just tried to get a bunch of cylinder beads at one time...so I knod of sneak them in one vial at a time!
Paula Adams Ornaments
Hey guys, don't leave us out of the fun. Who's Paula Adams and how can we see her beading stuff? We love eye candy!
Paula Adams Ornaments
Sorry Allegra! Paula Adams is a really good 3D ornament beader. This is her website
http://www.beadpatterns-paulaadams.com/index.php
Paula Adams Ornaments
Oh my gosh, her beadwork is over the top! Beaded pinecones, beaded angels with real doll heads! I've never seen such extravagance! Her free patterns are quite nice too, they show how to do 3D peyote stitch with seed beads, which is what I want to learn, so works out nicely. I haven't seen any right angle weave on her site. I guess peyote is her specialty. Amazing what you can do with it. Thanks for sharing!
Paula Adams Ornaments
Yes, the Christmas Tree is nice too. I do a lot of peyote, and I also design with Beadscape on my Mac notebook. I'm trying to "expand" my knowlege of 3D and I just fell in love with the 3D beading website. The ball bracelet is my favorite....thanks for the free patterns.!
Paula Adams Ornaments
Of course you can share emails! In fact, you can already email each other by clicking on the little envelope symbol beside your name in your post. If you entered your email address into the forum to be contacted of replies by email, your little envelope beside your name here will point to your email inbox, so if someone clicks on it they can send you an email directly. They won't see your email address because it's private, but if you reply to their email, they will get it in their inbox and then they'll see your email address.
Anyways, have you made a ball bracelet yet? If you have, we'd all LOVE to see it! Post a picture of it! I just love seeing what others do with the patterns.
What is beadscape?
Paula Adams Ornaments
Well, my kids are grown and now I have grandkids that occupy my time.
Of course now I want to make little beaded barrettes and dolls and things. By the way, are we allowed to exchange email addresses on here?
Paula Adams Ornaments
I don't see why not. Anyways be glad to give you mine.
sunrisebeading@verizon.net
In fact anybody from here can contact me if they want!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I did not make finalist this year for the Fire Mountain Gems and Beads Contest, for my ornament "Kissing Ball" Oh well so I broke my running streak, maybe next year!

Hi, My name is Cheri and I am from Jacksonville, Florida. I am not new to beading, but I am relatively new to the world of 3D beading. I am a member of the Northeast Florida Bead Society and currently hold the position of vice president. I love learning new techniques when it comes to beading.
My very first 3D beading project was a swarovski crystal Hello Kitty. I found the tutorial on allcoolcrafts.com about a week ago and made her from that. I hung her from my cell phone and have gotten a lot of compliments. I have since ordered a few books from ebay on the subject of 3D beading and am looking forward to receiving them.
I am so glad that I found this site and I look forward to exploring, participating in the forum, and making new beading friends.
