Beading Patterns

by Laura, Friday, July 04, 2008, 08:42

Hey everyone,

I'm Laura, and I've been coming to this site now for a few months and have made a few of the beaded animals/hearts.

I thought I'd try and get the forum a bit busier with a new topic. I know that Allegra is trying her hardest to complete the patterns that have been requested and many people are eager to try new patterns. So, does anyone have any that they're willing to share or know of any other sites that use the same beading technique? If we can all share/swap patterns there will be more to choose from (obviously!!)

Anyway, to start off, I found a japanese site that has some patterns on it if anyone wants to try...
Cat with umbrella - http://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/sally-beads-shop/a5eca5b7a54.html
Pink panther - http://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/sally-beads-shop/recipe-pin1.html
It's all in japanese :-( but the diagrams are quite clear and if you just follow them as carefully as you can you should be okay :-)

Beading Patterns

by Jax, Monday, July 07, 2008, 13:39 @ Laura

I have been looking for 3D patterns for a long time and have come across quite a few.

Christine has tons of goodies on her site. http://www.beadjewelrymaking.com/

These are a little different, they are done with wire. The site is in another language but the link has it with a translator. The technique is listed on the sidebar and gives you a basic idea on how to read the pattern and how to work it.
3d wire beading

I have pictures on my flickr account of the panda and the frog if you want to see them. They were easy to do but I am not big on wire work.

about.com also has some patterns
http://beadwork.about.com/od/freebeadpatterns1/All_Free_Beading_Patterns.htm

The witch and one of the beaded flowers are also on my flickr page.
Hope this helps.

I know I'm stupid, but is there any chance you could explain how those wire beading patterns work? I've tried a few and all i end up with is a mess.
Much thanks!

Hi Andrada, which wire-work pattern are you referring to? Do you mean the spiral pendant pattern that is posted in the jewelry page? That's the only wire-work pattern I have on the site right now. Is there something unclear in the instructions? Let me know what it is!

Awesome!! I love the Hello Kitty with the Umbrella pattern. I bookmarked it and will try it out later. Thanks so much for sharing the site with all of us. Yay!! I love Hello Kitty and heart patterns. They are my fave.

Whoa, now that I've read Laura's diagram with instructions, and attempted to draw my own, I actually think I could understand and follow the beaded hello kitty with umbrella pattern on that site. When I first looked at it, I was clueless. But I'd like to think you don't have to go through such enormous lengths as to attempt your own beading diagram just to understand someone else's. I don't like how the hello kitty with umbrella diagrams are kind of haphazardly drawn though. They made no attempt whatsoever to try to make their bead circles look symmetrical. Geez. That makes it look scarier than it really is.

I really liked all three patterns. The only one that I find hard to follow is the weiner dog. Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out. By time I finish it could possibly look like a monster rather than a dog. :)

As for me, I've just finished Hello Kitty (the one with the umbrella, but I haven't made the umbrella yet) and I advise every one to try it lol! That's pretty easy, even if you don't speak Japanese every day... personnally, I don't :-D And the result is really awesome!
My only problem was to place the arms and the ribbon, since (oddly) their position is not precisely indicated on the pattern... The photo helps much in this instance: it seems to me that the kitty I made is exactly the same as the one on the site ^^

Post a picture of your hello kitty with umbrella (hehe, minus the umbrella if you haven't made it! :-P )!! All you have to do is click on the "image" button above the text box where you type your message. Then you can browse for your picture and upload it. We want to see!!

Well, I can't refuse such a request :-P

So here is my kitty, under the intense, cloudy (and rather exhausting...) heat of Paris :
Since I made it with 4 mm bicones (so as to use them more easily in other projects), it is quite oversized! I couldn't make an umbrella as tiny as the one on the pattern. So, I created my own umbrella, but I didn't fix it (perhaps too heavy: I didn't want the kitty to be wasted, especially because I took great care to the finishing touches). How do you find it?

Yesterday, I also made a few other things so I made that occasional photo session profitable LOL

A slightly modified snowman from beadjewelrymaking.com (many thanks, Christine!!):
He didn't want to stand on his own ^^

And to finish, a little sea star (peyote) next to a lollipop (peyote again) popped out of my brain hehe (personally, I don't like it much):

(I hope these photos are in the right place, since the patterns aren't from this site)

Have a nice day :-)

Hi Cathi,

I made the sea star from a French tutorial, but sorry I don't have any link (I only saved it on my computer) and I don't know if I can post it here. Anyway, please give me your email address: I'd be glad to send you the tuto and to help you to translate the explanations, if need be ^^

Hi ladies! Bidiboum, I LOVE your beading patterns!! They blow me away. The umbrella is breathtaking. The sea star is ridiculously good. I can certainly post your pattern on the website for you. Just email it to me at allegra@friendshipbeading.net and I'll post it on the site.

Hi Allegra !

Thanks a lot, I'm glad to see you like my little creations :-)

I'll send you the sea star pattern as soon as I can (my computer is running a bit slowly, at the moment) and I'm also going to try and make a simplified beading instruction for the umbrella, if anyone wants to use 4mm bicones to make a huge Hello Kitty (but unfortunately I can't promise anything ^^')

Elsewhere, here is a link I was looking for:
http://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/sally-beads-shop/reshipi.html
That's a list of all the "reshipi" (recipes LOL) you can find on the japanese site which hosts the pattern of Hello Kitty. I hope it'll make somebody happy ;-) (even though there aren't so much wonderful patterns, apart from the ones Laura gave...)

Another good site in Italian (the patterns are quite understandable) for crystal beading lovers:

Page 2: http://www.stefygstore.it/catalog/schemi-freeschemi-gratuiti-c-56.html?page=2&sort=20a

See you !
(and sorry for my English, this time I think I've made several mistakes...)

It's okay LOL, as long as the point gets across, and that is the only purpose of communication!

If you want a good program for making a pattern diagram, I just discovered Inkscape yesterday. It's available at inkscape.org for free! It's a great, powerful drawing program similar to adobe illustrator. I'm learning how to use it right now. It's very easy though and way more user-friendly than adobe illustrator.

I agree with Allegra, Bidiboum. Besides, I don't think I saw any more mistakes in your message than we would make ourselves....that is assuming there were any. By the way, thank you for those wonderful links. I had never seen them before.

I agree that most foreign patterns (well, foreign to the the USA anyway) are very well diagramed and therefore, easy to follow.

Hi Eloise,

It's really hard to find good beading patterns using the search engines because there's so many irrelevant sites listed first for some reason. But I did manage to find a hamtaro beading pattern. It's probably not the one you had before, but might as well give it a try:
