Why Do You Bead ???
Here are my two favorite ones.
1. I was at the local library with my granddaughter and while she was being entertained by the guest speaker from follies on ice, I started beading at a table in the main hall area, I was just beading away when I looked up to see these two little girls squatting in chairs on the other side of the table they held their little faces in their little hands and where just staring at me while I worked, when I had finished the piece I held it up for them to get a good look and at the same time they said wow.
What better praise could you hope for.
2. I got an e-mail from someone it stated that he had seen a sample of my work and was wondering if I did custom beadwork.
With all the problems I was having, and a ton of self projects I was working on I almost decided to reply not at this time.
When a little voice said if you aren’t playing you can’t win.
This is my favorite saying when asked why I play the Lottery.
Anyway I sent him an e-mail saying that I do Custom beadwork, but I was extremely busy right now, but had a friend who could do what ever pattern I sent.
Low and behold I received the following e-mail message.
I would like a hat band for a western hat, my hat is fawn in color and I measured around the top of the hat where it meets the brim and that is 22 ¼ “. I like turtles and the following colors blue white green orange black but not yellow or red. I don’t know what way to make it but I’ll trust your judgment for pattern and such. If you could give me an idea as to what it will cost I’d appreciate that.
Well after some consideration I came up with a pattern 13 beads wide in peyote stitch and a price, and sent the information off to the gentleman.
He responded by e-mail stating that he never expected to see the piece before I made it, I sent him a photo of the piece on my own graph paper, he liked it very much and promised a check was forth coming.
The next day I received a money order by express overnight delivery.
So I made him the hat band, and sent it to him.
A couple of weeks later I went to the rodeo in Salt Lake City Utah, my seat was in the nose bleed section, and you will never guess what I saw. ha, ha, ha
That’s right the hat band that I had made.
I was really impressed with how it looked on that fawn colored hat, that measured 22 ¼ “ at the top of the hat where it meets the brim, perched on top of the head of the reigning bull riding champion.
I have made other hat bands before and since but I will always remember that one.
Why Do You Bead ???but
I just came across this site, it looks promising.
I got hooked on beading in the 70's
No I was never a Flower Child.
I enjoy the texture of the beads as they are woven into a wonderfully new creation.
I find that it relaxes me and I find it shows me things I didn't know.
I have a passion for peyote, but I don't see to much here.
I like your Post you must be an experienced beader.
Maybe you can share your work with us.

As for mine or anyones work on this site it has to be posted, and that takes some time .

The people on this site seem to be very nice.

Why Do You Bead ???
Allegra is the best! I can't figure out how she keeps up with all of it but I love that she has done all of this. I started beading when I was young but have really gotten into it in the last 4 years though I did take an 18 month break from just about everything for school but I am officially an LVN now so I would have to say it was worth it! I think the biggest reason I bead is because it calms me. I can't think of anything else while I am beading or I will poke myself with the needle! Most of my stuff is given away and I love the feeling of making someone elses day special because they know that I put a lot of time into their piece and that always makes it more special.
Why Do You Bead ???
Wow, that's a seriously unreal beading story. What are the chances. Amazing.
Jax, you're the best!!! I can't believe how generous you have been with trying to help me out with the beading patterns in any way you can. You'll never know how grateful I am to have you. This place would be so lonely without you. I always look forward to reading your messages!
I'm going to post the patterns tomorrow!! I had a lot of homework that was due today, but it's done now and it's the weekend! I'm going to bed now though because I only slept 2 hours last night. And the two nights before that, now that I think about it.
I started beading as a completely fortunate accident. I never planned on it. It's like I didn't choose beading, it chose me. I was just shopping in Chinatown looking for the usual pink girly useless trinkets, when I came across this store that sold only beadwork. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was just so astonished. I had only ever seen beads used to string necklaces. I had no idea that you could make 3D beadwork out of beads. She mainly sold 3D right angle weave animals, which is why there seems to be an abundance of them on this site LOL. But I am trying to expand! After learning the animals, I was able to start inventing patterns, and I invented almost all of the jewelry patterns on this site. I have not gathered enough experience to invent an animal pattern yet. I am hoping one day. I first have to learn all the stitches, and right now I'm starting with peyote stitch. I'm almost done my first ever flat peyote stitch!! I'll post a picture when it's done. Just a few rows away! Anyways, needless to say, after seeing the bead shop I was hooked. I had to wait around for an hour for her to teach me how to bead, but it was well worth it! And I'm glad to be able to share it with others as well. That is the greatest reward!
And thanks for using the forum! Finally it's getting some use!

Why Do You Bead ???
LOL I am trying to help! I just don't know how you do it. I can see the beads and what they are going to make when they are in my hand but after an hour on inkscape I have only gotten 2 steps done on the spider! Anyone who says or thinks this is easy, try making a pattern! So I guess it is back to the drawing board to read thru your tutorial again and see if I can make it work. You will be the first to know if I ever make it to a finished pattern!
Why Do You Bead ???
Hi Jax
Thanks for your response.
I know exactly what you mean about poking yourself with the needle, my grand kids laugh at me everytime I poke myself they think it is the funniest thing they have ever seen.
Me I thought I was getting age spots, WRONG just the little reminders of what I like to call enjoyment.

Why Do You Bead ???
lol I know what you mean. Whenever I say ouch my husband says don't do that it will hurt. Like I am poking myself on purpose!
Why Do You Bead ???
Have you guys read the comment posted by "totally disappointed" on my home page? Man, how mean.
Why Do You Bead ???
Yes, I left him my two cents. Don't let someone get you down just cuz they are jealous they could never accomplish what you have! There are always people out there like that.
Why Do You Bead ???
Hehe, aww you're so nice to me Jax!
This was the second ever comment like that on this site. The first one was a person who said that they were looking for pony bead patterns, and for some reason they landed on my site from google, and they said "What is this crap? I was looking for pony bead patterns! Take your site off of google for that!" .... As if I told google where to list my site? No one asks google to list their site, it just happens while their googlebot spiders the internet. Little does the guy know, typing the words "pony bead patterns" on my site will only make it more likely for my site to show up under that search term! LOL! Oh the irony.
Why Do You Bead ???
Just remember that you can't please everyone, some people just like to be plain mean! Some just have nothing better to do, and just can't be made happy no matter what. I think what your doing is great and I cant wait to see more patterns, and hopefully learn to make my own patterns one day!
