Lion and Alligator
Hi, my first post.
I have been scouring the web for a 3d pattern for an lion (just the head would be fine) and an alligator pattern, but with no luck.
I am trying to make a cell phone charm for my friend but even our local craft shops have said that they do not carry any patterns for these two animals.
Any help would be appreciated.
I do like the alligator on this sites web page, but there is no link for me to click on.
Thanks.

Hi Joe.
I went to look at Lisa's crocodile and it looks like a Pony Bead or Beadie Bead Pattern. If you google either one of these, you should find what you are looking for.
Google Free Pony Bead Patterns or Free Beadie Patterns, otherwise just play around with these keywords when you are googling. There are hundreds of sites out there for these type of beaded patterns for free.
I will look through my folders later and post some patterns for you.

Thank you Vanessa. This is a great site! I've gotten four of those Japanese books, but they are confusing to me. Some of the patterns look like they end and I don't know where to begin again. For example, I finally found a lion pattern (thanks to this site) and they have the head, body and other parts all separated! Am I supposed to do the head, tie it off and get a new piece of nylon and do the body and tie them together somehow? So confused, but I'm trying to make a gift for a friend so I won't give up. This is the pattern, a bit blurry, but it's the best that I could find. (if anyone has this pattern and it's more clear, can you let me know!)
As for the alligator pattern, I was able to find a couple, but it looks like pony beading, which I don't know how to do (but I'll figure it out). I've been making those 3d japanese patterns for a bit and i"ve never done a pony bead patter b4. It's a challenge, but that's what makes the gift more appreciated!

Hi Joe.
When using these patterns, the easiest way to follow them is just from one diagram to the next diagram follow the arrows, colours of the different threads, beads, numbers and arrows etc. Each diagram is just a continuation from the last one. They do take a while to learn to understand how they work.
The numbers etc in the pattern of the lion are not clear to me at all.
I am not very good at explaining things in word form,I normally get myself confused, maybe Jen or someone else can explain better to you how to follow these patterns.

Would I be able to get this pattern emailed to me please? I think it is really cute and have been trying to find something different :) I'm new at the this whole 3D beading stuff :)
Lion and Alligator
Do you happen to have a pony pattern in one of those books? I have been looking, but I don't know which book it is in.
Thanks

Here are a few Crocodile patterns that are very easy to follow.

Vanessa;
Thank you very much for the pattern. I'm going to practice it tonight when I get home! You are the best!

FYI...for those that care. I found this croc pattern on a link ON THIS SITE... ....I'm making it right now with plastic beads and when i'm done, i'll post a pic! I just wish that I could find it with a clearer pic. When i print it out, it's a bit blurry.
Lion and Alligator
I'm hoping that someone can help me!
On the lion diagram, on section #2, for the legs, it shows that the threads end on the upper left hand side of the diagram out of a dark bead, then if you follow the arrows to the diagram on the right, it shows that it starts on a light bead???? then again onto the next step it shows that it starts on a different colored bead again! I'm so confused! Also, if anyone knows, if the thread ends with an "F" does that mean to tie it off?
Lion and Alligator
It looks to me like the light colored beads are just a way of showing beads that are already added to the work. eg in section 2 the five beads that are in the circle were already there from the head you already worked, you now need to work through those 5 beads to create the body.
In section 3, you work the first part completely. Then when you look at your work you will see 3 beads joined together in a circle, where you left off. You now need to work through those three beads which you've already worked. They're just pale to let you know they are already there.
I'm not too sure of the next part, but the pale beads again are beads that are already added. Often it will make sense as you get to this section.
If you still have trouble, let me know, and maybe send me a copy of this pattern to my email, so hopefully it will be a bit clearer. I'll then have to make it, and see if I can make sense of it.
Lion and Alligator
Thanks Jen. I just finished the alligator pattern with plastic beads and it came out pretty good! I am going to start making it with Swarovski crystals and when I'm done with that, I'm gonna make the lion. I'll take pics and post when I'm done for the folks who care.
I agree with you about the faded out beads, but I still don't understand exactly how to put it all together. I agree with you that it might make sense when I actually get to that part of the pattern. When I do, I'll let you folks know.
Regards;
Joe

Good luck! Let me know if you have trouble.
Lion and Alligator
I found this very cute little lion in my books in my folders this afternoon and thought I would just post it here for everyone.

Lion and Alligator
Hey Folks;
For those that care, I finally finished both figurines.
It took me a total of about 4 days, 2-3 hours a day.
The Alligator wasn't too bad, but the Lion was a P.I.T.A.!
I had to redo the Lion about 7 times (3 times for the head and 4 for the body.)
I just couldn't figure out how to make the arms when u start from the body, so I had to make them separately and then attach them to the body. The legs were no problem, just the arms. I think overall they turned out alright!
I hope my friend enjoys them and realizes the effort that was put into it, but she probably won't...sigh...
Oh well, this will be it for me as far as big crystal figurines go. I think I lost about half my sight working with these crystals and I will only be making small cellphone charms from now on, that is unless the boss (wife...no she's not looking over my shoulders right now) wants me to make one.
F.Y.I. the Alligator was about 200 crystals and Lion was about 500 crystals.
I used the 3 mm swarovski bicones and some seedbeeds...I don't like the figures when they are made out of the 4 mm, they come out WAY too big for my tastes.
Also, is there a way to contact the people in the picasso site to see if we could get a clearer pic of the diagram sent to us? Some of these diagrams are too blurry for my little eyes to read on the screen and if I could get them in a higher resolution, it would be great.
Thank you Vanessa and others for the advice and encouragement, if anyone needs any help just let me know.
Here are the pics....Yes, the colors are a bit different from the diagrams, but the person selling them to me thought they were the correct colors and I was too lazy to drive back to exchange them...and yes, the lions tails sticks out rather stiffly, but it looks cuter in person!
Lion and Alligator
Hi Joe.
Well done. You created two amazing works of art. Always remember anything created is a work of art and it is your own creation. I think you did a fantastic job with both and the Lions face is so cute.
To contact people on Picasso you will have to open an account with Picasso which is free. The thing with Picasso is the Books and that, that people have is mainly for exchange. So you have to offer them something they do not have or they want to exchange with you. Some people have Public Libraries and you can download from them no problem, but the ones that you are saving the images from, that are blurred, are there for views of whats in the books and that is why they are blurred when you save them.
Vanessa.
Lion and Alligator
Thanks for the info Vanessa.
I'll look into it, cuz I have a book that she doesn't seem to have and if she's willing, I think we can work out something!
Great site, glad I found it!
Lion and Alligator
Oh wow! They look great! You did a terrific job. With the legs, it doesn't really matter if you make them, then add them, or make them while they're joined, so I wouldn't worry about that.
The other thing you can do with the tail is to make it with thin wire instead of thread or fishing line. Then you can bend it to any position that's most natural.
They look so good, now I want to make them too!
Lion and Alligator
DARN!
Jen, that's a great idea! Never thought of that! Shoot, trying to figure out if it's worth it to do it again! Darn it! OH well, glad u folks like it.
Lion and Alligator
You could probably even manage to add a thin bit of wire in it now. If it doesn't work, just pull it out again.
Lion and Alligator
Can anyone help me get a better pattern of the alligator? I cant really read the one on here.
